5 Trends from ‘Padmaavat’ Sure to Make a Comeback in 2018!

Every now and then, a film comes along that starts new trends, or brings back old ones. This time it’s Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’. The story was already represented in a play and TV show but neither received the attention this film is getting. Though there’s a lot of controversy surrounding the film, let’s not neglect the absolute splendor of the movies setting, costumes, makeup and hair. Here are five trends that we see coming back with the release of Padmaavat.

  1. You Need (this) Brow

Girls who make frequent trips to the parlor to shape their eyebrows are going to love this one. In the movie, Deepika Padukone sports a unibrow and makes it work. Not only does this add a touch of authenticity to the story (the film is based in the1300s – a time when the only form of hair removal was probably when you stand too close to the fire and accidentally get some of your hair burned off), but it also makes her look bold and naturally beautiful. Other famous unibrows include the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and our very own Kajol who has been working the unibrow with confidence and charm.

  1. Time to Get Nosy

Though septum piercing had become a fashion statement a while ago and we saw stars like Rihanna and Lady Gaga with some sort of jewelry between the nostrils, the fad never made it big. In Padmaavat, Deepika wears a small septum ring, occasionally accompanied by traditional ‘Rajwada’ nose rings. We think this will start off a huge demand for all thing septum – be it pinchers, rings or retainers. For those afraid of actually getting pierced, there are plenty of press septum rings to try out instead.

  1. One Step Ahead

If you thought the bindi was too simple and you can’t do much with it, one look at Deepika in this film will make you change your mind. She wears a red bindi but not in the usual place, instead, she wears it high on her forehead. While one might think this was done so that the bindi doesn’t get lost in that unibrow, we can’t deny that it actually looks good.

  1. A Great Eye-dea

The winged eyeliner and the smokey eyes both had their time in the spotlight but this film is going to bring them  back and get them together. Deepika doesn’t have loud lipstick or shimmering blush in the movie, but she does sport a combination of the winged eyeliner and smokey eyes, making her look strong, yet soft.

  1. At Any Cost-ume

From the trailer and the song ‘Ghoomar’, we see that Rajasthani culture has been portrayed with authenticity and detail. All of Deepika’s outfits take us back to the Rajputana era. It took 200 craftsmen 600 days to mold 400kg of gold in order to get the jewelry for the movie just right. As for the costumes – some of them are antiques made from fabrics collected over time. Of late, we’ve been seeing a lot of brides drawing inspiration from Deepika’s attire in the film.
