Beauty Lowdown – How to Prevent Your Skin from Tanning
You don’t have to be heading off to a tropical paradise to worry about getting tanned. That can happen in your own city! Using an umbrella or attempting to cover every inch of your face with a scarf can only do so much. To actually shield yourself from the wrath of the sun, follow these steps.
Ingredient labels to the rescue
Did you know that sunrays constitute two kinds of radiation? While the UVA rays cause skin tanning (a precursor to wrinkles), the UVB rays make it burn (known to lead to skin cancer). Your sunscreen must offer broad spectrum protection against both of these. Make sure that you ALWAYS wear a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Check your ‘application status’
Even if you don’t have time to apply makeup, do not skip on sunscreen. Remember to apply it about a half an hour before stepping out – smooth it over all exposed areas and not just your face. If you are going to stay out long, make sure you reapply it every few hours. If you are going swimming, use a water and sweat resistant sunscreen.
Home is where the remedy is
Two great home remedies for tanned skin:
Cut a fresh lemon and rub a slice of it on the tanned areas. Leave it for a few minutes and wash it off.
Mix together some besan, milk cream and rose water. Apply this paste and for up to 20 minutes before washing it off.
Hoard up on other protective accessories
You can go summer-chic while staying protected – wear-oversized sunglasses, funky scarves, floppy, broad-brimmed hats, and sarongs or maxi skirts.
If the sun’s rays got to you before you read this post, just book yourself some detanning beauty treatments. Manicures and pedicures are great for lightening a tan and soothing skin. Facials and clean-ups will remove dead skin cells and give you a more even-toned look. Waxing is also helpful in removing a tan.
