5 Facts We Bet You Didn’t Know About Ganesh Chaturthi!
It’s time to acknowledge the elephant in the room – the loved and adored Lord Ganesha! Every year we have a 10-day celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi to honour the Lord of good beginnings and prosperity. If you think you know everything about this festival, think again. Here are five fascinating facts on Ganesh Chaturthi.
God of Gods
It is believed that it was on this day that Lord Shiva declared his son Ganesha superior to all Gods excluding Vishnu, Shiva, Lakshmi and Parvati. When celebrating such a special God, you can’t afford to have a messy or dull home – that’s why we are giving away festive lights worth Rs.299 with every booking for Festive Home Cleaning.
Lord of Many Names
There are around 108 names for Lord Ganesha including ‘Vigana Hart’ meaning ‘the remover of obstacles’. While you pray to Lord Ganesh to remove the obstacles from your life, you can start by removing those at home. A good thorough cleaning before the festivities begin will only make more room for the murtis and modaks (Ganesha’s favourite food). If there are things that need fixing at home, you’re in luck. We have a special festive offer where you book home repairs at 15% off!
Yummy in the Tummy
Modak is believed to be Lord Ganesha’s favourite food and has come to represent joy and prosperity. Now, there are a number of varieties of this dish ranging from chocolate modaks to spicy steamed modaks.
Repeat after Me
During the procession, the crowd shouts out ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya, Purcha Varshi Laukariya’ asking Lord Ganesha to come back next year.
Land to Sea
On the last day of the festival, the idols are immersed in water so that it dissolves and Ganesha returns to Mount Kailasha to Shiva and Parvati. Traditionally, the idols were sculpted out of mud but sadly these days they are made from Plaster of Paris and harmful paints that contribute to water pollution. Have an eco-friendly celebration this year and make sure to only immerse (if you have to) clay idols with aqua-safe paints.
As we wish you luck and success for new beginnings, we also offer a 40% cash back on beauty services booked on weekdays! Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!
